The art depicts a group of children hand in hand, playfully heading towards the sunlight. To their left is a landscape of their old, run-down city. To their right is a rural setting, a growing field of crops and animals. The skies are decorated with thick clouds that pour tiny raindrops onto the children. The artist created this art to commemorate, mark and celebrate the achievements of a group of street children from India, who in 2012 travelled the world with a musical theatre production to raise money and awareness. This piece was exhibited at their show in London, where the artist met the children and enjoyed their presentation. Ekatva is a dance and drama production based on Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, performed by sixteen underprivileged children coming from some of the largest slums in Ahmedabad, India. The show provided an experience of profound transformation for the sixteen children, enabling them to unlock their true potential, lifting them out of their challenging environment for a brighter future.
